Netmite Fundamental Patent 6,418,462 Embraces Ajax, Web 2.0, P2P and Distributed Computing
SUNNYVALE, Calif. (Business Wire EON) March 25, 2008 -- The '462 patent, which will be offered as Lot 7, discloses methods for utilizing client computing resources by a client through a sideband communication channel in addition to the main communication channel between a client and server.
Embodiments of this patent may apply to:
-- Ajax
-- Web 2.0
-- P2P (Peer to Peer)
-- Distributed Computing, Grid, Cloud, Cluster and Super computing
In Ajax, an asynchronous communication method between client and server forms the foundation of Web 2.0 industry. Ajax became widespread concurrent with the heightened popularity of Web 2.0 due to increased interactivity, speed, functionality, and usability. Common Ajax applications include Google Maps, GMail, Microsoft Live, Yahoo Mail, Flickr and More ...
In P2P, the '462 patent anticipates that a client acts not only as a client; it may provide additional services through additional channels to perform additional tasks such as routing, caching or proxying. All P2P networks, including P2P file sharing, content delivery network, and P2P phone or TV services such as Skype and Joost, exploit diverse connectivity between participants and act as a server to provide services to others.
In Distributed Computing, trails of the sideband channels can be found where a node can act as non-traditional client or server, to handle requests and services from other nodes.
Ocean Tomo President Andrew T. Ramer said this patent "presents a unique opportunity for major Internet companies, Ajax providers or developers as well as most popular Internet sites to secure their existing development efforts and provide a long-term competitive advantage in this fast-growing Ajax and Web 2.0 industry."
"This patent encompasses ground-breaking technology commonly used in Web 2.0, P2P and distributed industry. Considering the enormous market size and user base of Ajax, Web 2.0 based web sites and P2P companies, this patent stands out and exhibits exceptional and extraordinary value and potential," according to inventor Mr. Yongyong Xu.
